I use 12g for everything but the switch wire for consistentcy sake. I soldered pigtails and only run two lights per relay.

Sounds like the timing chain cover maybe. There might be a TSB out on that, I had mine fixed but don't remember if they did it under warranty. Service said it was a common problem in the Tacoma.
