I've noticed that this little corner of the forum has been very quite and I thought I would share a little bit of what I've been up to with my FJ40. A couple of months or so ago I decided that it was time to rebuild the engine on my 40(I wish this was the reason I decided to yank the engine). The actual story consisted of me messing with a new pointless distributor and not pushing the distributor down enough to engage the oil pump and seizing the engine.:eek:ut: In my defense it was running amazing right up until it seized! This being my first engine rebuild, I asked my dad for guidance. Yesterday we spent the day tearing the engine apart, I had already removed the engine from the truck. Spending the day working on anything mechanical with my dad is the best Christmas present I could have asked for. We got it down to a bare block, and now I'm ready to send it out for line drilling and boring and getting the crank ground. One of the crank journals was slightly damaged, so it should just need grinding. I have this amazing book that came with my 40 on rebuilding the engine. It has every spec imaginable! Anyway here's some photos, I spaced on taking a few of the bare block and pistons. If anybody knows a good place to get a crank ground and block bored and drilled let me know.

I remember those nights in the garage with dad,we used to fight like cats and dogs.We would then turn around and get to work on something else like nothing ever happened. Those were the days I knew it all.It has been so long I only remember the good times now.

West coast engine rebuilders. I believe they are in La off the 5/Atlantic. We used them a lot when we played with motors.
Thanks!

So jealous! More pics of that silver beast please!
Pictures can't describe how beautiful this rig is. You'll have to make the trek up to HB to come see it one day Bobby.

Oh man, my wheels have been turning about a frame off restoration. I picked up a 2F engine about a month or so ago to replace the original 1F engine. As I look at the 40 sitting there, it's only a few bolts to remove the body. I don't know, maybe I've been spending too much time on IH8mud. Benson thinks it's a great idea. What do you guys think?

So cool man great work. So what was decided? Make it a cruiser or a wheeler?
Somewhere in between. I have very little interest in bastardizing a 40, so I'll make some changes like a four speed and disc brakes, but never a V8. I found a thread that really inspired me here. I'd like a couple inch lift and 33" BFG KM2. If I could get my cruiser to look just the same I'd be really happy. I might even take it down to Baja this winter for a similar camping trip.

I almost forgot, I found some nasty cancer. I suspected it would be pretty rough under there, the rear sill was pretty rough. Don't ever put diamond plate on your vehicle. I'm not too concerned, it's just a bit more work to cut out the sill and patch the holes.
