They are pretty much the same exact thing. With one exception-the AFE has a port, which gives ya little more CAI intake sound when you are "on it" this port comes with a plug so that it can be sealed.

I myself like the louder intake noise. I also like having the option to install the plug and make it quieter or if you are gonna do some heavy water crossings you can seal it up completely. I've had mine thru some pretty deep muddy water w/the plug out water still never touched the filter element.

Both are a good choice. You are gonna love it with either unit!

Isn't one of them certified for CA emissions? Or are all of them?
I'm not quite sure, But any alteration from stock is grounds for failure. I think.

I hear the TRD, because of a solid box, actually cuts down on the amount of air pulling in. Some guys that bought the plug for the hole in the AFE actually decreased performance because of less air....I don't know this for fact, it was what was being said. I myself have the AFE and do not plug the hole.

I also reccomend using a butal rubber sealant on all the edges where air can sneak in. I.E. the attachment to the box where the filter attaches to. (thanks Tim and Larry) also buy a can of maf sensor cleaner or electronics contact cleaner in case you over oil your filter. it will drop mpg's exponentially if it gets gummed up or dirty. the install should be cake. Post up if you got any issues, we'll help ya through it. Congrats on the new mod.
