So on my way back from Anza Borrego... I pulled over to air up my tires... opened the hood to conect my compressor and noticed one of the silicon sleeves connecting the TRD airbox to the intake tube came loose. There was a small gap at the bottom that allowed air in. Reconnected it all and was back on the road... with no problems.

It probably came loose while we where doing some high speed runs through the sandy canyons.

Inside the intake tube is just a fine layer of dust & the engine is still running fine... I plan on getting my 5000mile oilchange this week... should I be worried? Anything else I can do?

I had that happen a couple times.

You have to make sure you wipe the insides of the red couplers CLEAN! Then, you have to make sure the pipe is "centered" evenly between both of the couplers, and then tighten the hose clamps tighter than heck.

Yup, the red silicone couplers come with a slick preservation oil on them. Clean the insides with some rubbing alcohol let dry, then spray a bit of hairspray in it right before you put it on, and as Dom said also, make sure it is centered.

Thanks... I'll try that out. Maybe tonight... so I can clean out the inside of the tube as well before the oilchange.

So I am guessing I shouldn't be too worried about the dust then?

Oh well...If the engine fails 200,000 miles from now from this... it's always a good excuse to put in the 4.7L V8 from the Tundra or maybe even a diesel from the Prado. ;D

The filter came loose again!!!

This time I was at the Asuza OHV park running through mud, getting stuck in mud, doing really rocky and sandy climbs... the silicone coupler was completely off... luckily no check engine lights... no rough idle... engine still running smooth.... but the truck was caked in mud.

I guess i'll be getting an AFE spacer this week & a dry filter... hopefully that fixes things.

Yeah bud, you are either doing something wrong or your airbox may not be mounted properly, or possibly a loose engine mount. I really don't know but I got 20k+ miles on mine and it has never fallen off or shook loose.
