hey just wondering what the pros and cons of removing my sway bar in the front would be.
I ended up pulling my front one off at the FJ Summit when it started contacting my coil over.

Pro's - better flex while offroad
Con's - on road driving is a little more tippy normal driving isn't bad but any sudden or hard turns are very noticeable and a roll over is very likely.

So no limit strap Josh?? I pulled my rear one off already and have been itching to get rid of the front.

For the rear the sway bar is pointless with MY setup.

My tires are tall enough and the springs are long so i need not worry about the spring coming out (have already stuffed the rear as much as possible to test it).

But the front is a ticking time bomb on my truck.. it makes the strangest noises. I know it's just gonna explode and take out my cv one day :D

Nope, I asked Dylan and Jason right before and after I took it off to make sure I wasn't over extending anything. Dylan said no problems with the Icon's other set ups might have issues with over extending things.

I am surprised you pulled the read before the front. The rear has a much more dramatic effect on the on road manners and doesn't really limit flex with what you and I are running. How is the ride after taking the rear off?

And that sound you hear is probably the sway bar hitting the coil(s)

Cant we just modify the existing or make a new one that would allow for more flex? What's the big deal? I'll have to crawl under and take a peek ;)
No, the way Toyota designed it makes it really hard to modify. Scraping it and doing a full custom job would be the way to do it but the time and money put into it doesn't really make sense for the gains.

Call me crazy but with no sway bar in back the ride is much much better!

Front is coming off today!

I agree, I can get one for my Jeep. I assume it is because the FJ is a fairly new vehicle. I think in time more hardcore aftermarket parts will be available.

I made a correction above Tibaal has the 2.0's foxes

My mechanic at our exhaust shop has mentioned wanting to design a quick disco...and I'm thinking about trying this now, after seeing the no sway bar in action. Need to get limit straps first but bUsTy and i decided to switch vehicles due to her work only being 1 mile away and mine being much further. Saving gas and giving Betsy (my rig) the ability to be more trail ready with less miles.

This week when we fab up some front crossmember supports (mine broke) I'm going to see if he can come up with something...going to print out bandis idea and go off that possibly. The allpro front skid has to be completly removed in order to get the sway bar off and I want to have the capabilities of putting it back the sway quickly for long trips. We shall see....like dom said it may be impossible.

I've got the FOX 2.5's up front...

I really like running with no front sway... I drive like a super-granny on the road to get good mileage so that's no issue.

One possible bad thing is UCA/spring contact at max downtravel. Not a big deal, but make sure it's not the ball joint smashing into the spring! That happened to me stock, and stock with 2" spacers.

Also, you will achieve ridiculous amounts of droop! The angles on the CV's and steering stuff will be huge... maybe not a good idea for any throttle-happy folks. I am ultra-conservative with the gas pedal and haven't had any problems (yet).

This is what I mean by ridiculous amounts of droop....

Looks good Mike, You just might want to check that its not drooping to low causing the CV to bind.

No binding I think... spins freely and smoothly by hand at that angle.

But yea, increased risk of break-age for sure... I consciously avoid turning the steering wheel to the lock, use the smallest amount of gas pedal necessary, etc etc.

Well really I've never broken anything mechanically... smahsed and dented stuff and ripped things off, but never anything important. I sort of take 'real' breakage as a sign of doing something wrong. ;)
