So, my winch started being an idiot today.

The lever got locked up, so i could no longer switch it into free-spool. The line was rock-hard, and cemented into one bundle of synthetic kevlar line.. (i guess that's what clay water does..who would of thunk'd?)

Oh.. and due to my "screw it i'll spool it back up correctly tomorrow" attitude, my line some freakin how, is spooled over itself, under tension. So it like, locked itself into a bundle. WTF.

Anyways.. I completely took it apart, cleaned it, fixed it. Lot's a dark brown water and rust spec's in it from last weekend. Now it's good as new on the inside. I even moved the lever forward so it is now easier to access.

....But the line is still tied into itself some damn how.

Anyone want 125' of Amsteel Blue Kevlar line for $100?? You remove it from the drum, and you can have it. But if you Eff it up in the process, you owe me more than $100. :p

Dom,

You need to have the line on the bottom. Now to get that line unspooled...what about hooking it up to an object (telephone pole works), set to free spool, and slowly back your FJ to release the line?

dom try hooking it to something solid, put it in free spool and slowly back up your truck. should pull free if it's not too f'd up. I got the same prob, if I dont spool it tight and perfect it will bind up. I wish I got the 80 foot instead.

well, after the reassembly of the winch itself, i mounted it back up and all that. Hooked it up to the tow hook on my dad's truck, put it in reverse. FREED!!

That was to easy..

Lesson learned: Try the simplest fix before you take the thing apart.

Oh, also, I repositioned the the lever on the winch, so now it is more forward, and now i don't have to stick my hand way back into the bumper to grab the lever.
