Ok guys. After a LONG 3 WEEKS of negiotiating with the parts doods that set up our police cars (and I saw a Corona PD Charger there today...DAMN SWEET!!), I have a price for the setup.

It is a Whalen PA/Air Horn combo with mic, 100W speaker, and all the wiring necessary (except the add-a-circuit or however you wanna hook up to power). This is the same equipment installed in police cars. And no, Dom, there IS NO SIREN. I specifically asked for that feature. But it DOES have the air horn....:D

The cost is about $365 for new, in the box, parts. Install is on you. This stuff ain't expensive, but it is quality gear. If you want it, I'll hook you up with Mario. Just let me know. Mario's shop prefers cash, but will take credit cards with an added fee (I have NO IDEA how much that fee is).

And $175 for 2 strobes, installed, in the rear tail light lenses.

BTW, these parts will last you a VERY, VERY long time. Some of our cars have well over 120K miles on them, and the sirens, PAs, and speakers are the things we NEVER have to replace. Good, quality parts.

How much power do those strobes draw? In another thread, Cruiserlarry stated that those types (xenon I believe) strobes draw a lot of power, and why LED is superior.
Dave we need more details about the strobes.. And a video!
G
Details? Dunno. But they are in the rear lenses of every police car you see, and we are running a single battery.
can i do it in the front too??
G
Absolutely! The price quote was for installed parts. Cheaper if you do the install!
How illegal is this? And how would one go about ordering the strobes?
G
Let me know what you want. If you want it installed, I need to go with you to get them put in (special deal and all, besides, I owe you lunch!). If you want the parts, I'll find out how much they are (front, rear, or both), and get you in contact with Mario.
Dominic you can find all this stuff on eBay for cheeper new and used. It is all legal and depends on how you use it. Driving down the street with the strobes are illegal. You can have clear and amber. Any other color is not cool. I had blue, amber, and clear strobes on my dodge and had a 75 watt X6 power supply and they were hella bright. The police use the low setting and I had mine on high. All the parts were made by Whelen which is top of the line gear. The police siren I had was also whelen and had PA, Air horn, Wail, Yelp, HiLo. It was 100 watts and was pretty loud. After I installed it I had a friend of mine who is a PD officer look at it. I kept asking him to look closer to my grill and see if anything looked wrong with the grill. He kept getting closer and had his face right in the grill and then I hit him with the air horn. He just about jumped out of his vest with fright. I think I am still laughing still to this day. The strobes are considered a suplemental warring system and should be used when pulled off to the side of the road or at best driving at a extream slow speed. Drive at a high rate of speed with strobes going and blowing the air horn is gonna get you in trouble. Cussing in the mic will get you in trouble.

A friend of mine had a all black crown vic that was fully tricked out undercover police style. We use to blow thru Long Beach all the time code 3 and never had any problems. Although not recommed this. Marked cars would pull up to us and give us a wave due to the fact we had no plates yet for the Crown Vic and they could see all the clear LED strobes not turned on. Where the law is gray is having clear lights when off and then red or blue or green when on is illegal. If you want something cool that no one else has, get a directional arrow stick for the back of the roof rack. And have it do a chase pattern when driving. That is cool. If you are to go to ebay and do a Whelen, SVP, Galls, Lund, Federal Signal search and just start reading you will learn a lot and find the stuff interesting. Good luck. I hope to get a PA or full Siren system in the next few months. I hope.

Very true, ACe. But you know, Whelen has enrey-level equipment, and they have high-end equipment. The stuff I have been able to get a discount for is the high-end stuff that will last forever and a half. The speaker has more lower-end as well as the highs, so the sound quality is better (think CHP PA system). It's all about what you are willing to buy. As for me, I'll be getting a cheapo system.....
Well Dave, i think i'd be interested in front and rear set of amber strobes ;D
G
Roger. PM Enroute....
G
Well Dom? did ya get the parts? They close at 3:30 every day....

On Tuesday of next week I'll be picking up my order....a used PA/Air Horn/Siren/light control box, used CHP PA speaker (both reconditioned) and new PA mic for $160, plus tax. I will need some help installing this, as electrical abilities escape me. Well, I can wire stuff to blow up but that is the extent of my inability. This should be a 3-4 hour job. Refreshments will be served.

If anyone else wants the same set up (the siren WILL be disabled in most cases prior to sale, but PA and air horn still operable), let me know. He may still have a couple sets left.
Dave....I can help but It will need to be a weekend and I am booked up solid through September. If something cancels, I will let you know.
G
Thanks Tim....I'll watch for your post/PM...
wow i completely spaced on this..

Dave if you want help and are not working I can help on the Saturday after Memorial day if interested. I have installed a few of these before. 1 dodge and 2 Crown Vics. I can make the siren side work to if you want. Nothing beats being a after hours off duty cop and be on duty if you catch my drift. ;D ;D My only request is doing this in the shade. Lemme know. Oh, Do you want the siren to activate via the horn or are ya gonna just not use the siren portion of it???
