Okay, I am new to this and have searched both the blue and this forum. In this world of the internet, I can get anything from anywhere... I would however like to support local sources...

I want to get some basic "off road" essentials for the FJ, such as:
- Hi Lift (48") along with platform, mounts and accessories
- Tool mounts/rack - I carry a small Gerber folding shovel and Ax - this would be for larger ones or other "items"
- Tree savers / Rope / pull - though I do not have a winch, I wish to carry this stuff to assist where needed
- A good place to check out "stuff" (I like to window shop)...

And, is there a decent "army/navy" surplus store around the South OC?

I have done a bit of research but do not know the rep or quality of some of the "local" vendors.

Note - I do have a bit of experience in the outdoors and have the basic stuff I need for me, now I need it for the FJ.

Oh almost forgot about Expedition Exchange in Torrance. They are mostly Land Rover oriented people, but they carry lots of general stuff too.

Thanks all... I am getting my list together and these sites and vendors help out in completing it...

At this point - things I need to get:
Recovery
Highlift (48") w/ mounting to stock rack
Highlift options - rock rail adaptor, recovery kit to be built (bag, tree saver, d-rings, gloves, etc), platform and lift mate

Support & Tools:
Gas and water cans (would like to lay flat, if possible)
Shovel, ax, and related mounting for rack
Base tool kit for FJ/Trips - have one now but will be updating - Costco has some decent kits with cases
Small compressor and Staun tire deflators
Coleman rack basket
Gobi Ladder
First Aid kit (comprehensive one - already have)

Most of the links have been covered, but I wanted to second whomever it was that posted the FourTreks link.. Their mouts are pricey, but when you see them in person, you'll understand why. I bought their combo equipment mount as well as their Hi-Lift mount.

I also buy quite a bit from 4 Wheel Parts in Laguna Hills. They are close and convenient and their prices aren't bad. If you go in there, ask for Erik and tell him that Brian with the Purple FJ sent you. Hell probably kick you out, but you'll walk away with a story to tell. ;)

If you'd like to see the FourTreks mounts, send me a PM and we can meet up. We live pretty close to one another.

PS. FunJunkie, thanks for posting that there's a slightly cheaper version of the slider adapter. I am close to ordering the WabFab. I'll check out cowboy4x4's before I do. It's always great to have options.

There is a 4 wheel parts right off the 405 and Inglewood. I just bought this cool Hi-Lift options pack from there. It came with a bag, the bumper thing, gloves, and other stuff. If you work at Toyota, I'm sure you know where In n' Out burger is, it's that exit off of the freeway go north on Inglewood and make first left on Marine, It's on your left. I work off of Wilmington ad the 405 and sometimes cruise over there at lunch. Oh, and I was a Toyotite for almost 4 years. I was the network administrator for Legal

Oh, and there is Oxmans Surplus in La Mirada off of Valley View and Rosecrans. I've been going there since before I can remember (5 yrs old or so)
