Hello everyone! I've been browsing the events forums and this looks like a great place to meet new people to go offroading with. This is my first 4x4 so I feel like I really need to learn a lot about how to properly offroad from some experienced FJ owners. My previous rig was a 2x4 Tacoma TRD that I did some light offroading with at Stoddard Wells where I usually went to ride my dirt bike and quads. I've since sold all my toys but got the offroading bug again and I've wanted the FJ since I saw the concept photos years ago so I went out and bought my FJ just last week. Since I did such light offroading with my 2x4 Tacoma I figured I wouldn't need a 4x4 but after reading so many FJ forums I figured I might as well get the 4x4 so I could go places I would never go before. I want to stay away from rock crawling or anything that could easily do body damage or roll my FJ since this is my only car to get to work, but other than that I've seen some really cool places to go offroading on this forum. You guys take some great pics of these trips!

My rig is totally stock and since I changed my mind from the 2x4 to the 4x4 at the dealership I didn't even know to make sure to ask for the rear locking diff and ATRAC so I don't have either. Being a beginner I hope I won't need either when trying to go on beginner trails.

I want to make my rig more able to go on trails with others so any advice on some early mods to help me ride trails with others would be great. I'm thinking about a 3" lift with 33" BFG T/A tires initially as I love the looks of the Team Millen FJ Baja as well as the tire size and lift size of FunJunkie's rig. My Tacoma was pretty much stock also so I've never added a lift either. The only place I know of to do all this work is outlaw offroad in Irvine.

Welcome. you also can get work done at 4 wehel parts in laguna hills or most tire shops can do the install for you too. If not, there are plenty of people here who have skills to get things one. i have never been to outlaw but thier wedsite and shop looks too shiny. You also have camburg offroad in HB.

Welcome to the madness and modness. What part of the HB are you in? I'm up next to the Westminster Mall. Look out for me. I have the lifted Voodoo blue with the large Camburg sticker in the back window.

Howdy!

For my 2 cents, Dirty Parts and Demello are great! But, I had my lift and new rubber put on at 4WheelParts in Laguna Hills. These guys do good work, and you can negotiate with them. My only input is stick with your plan for BFG, don't go Pro Comp. I've had both, and found the BFG's to be a bit better for the money.

Thank you for the warm welcome and tips on who to and not to use. I look forward to making it to an event to meet people and enjoy the offroading.

I'm getting ready to move to Costa Mesa soon so hopefully my fj fits in my new tiny garage! I work near the industrial area by Boeing so I cruise around the Westminster area a lot as we usually go to the mall for lunch. Funny enough, my avatar pic was taken at the Westminster Mall when it was empty on Sunday morning.

welcome! make sure to keep the steelies for the offroading! ;D
I actually love the steelies, it was the main reason I told them I didn't want any upgrade package to make sure I got them.
