HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Windshield Replacement Experience!

Today I got my windshield replaced by Safelite Auto Glass and the guy did a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE job! Repeat; HORRIBLE HORRIBLE job! Repeat again; HORRIBLE HORRIBLE job! Sorry, but I am furious! The guy that did the work in my driveway showed me a chip he put in the paint job and told me they would take care of it but on closer inspection after he left I found that there was another chip and a scratch but worst than that, all the panels surrounding the windshield are very loose and significantly out of alignment! I called their office immediately and they said they would send out a service manage tomorrow to "go over my issues". I can't believe he did such a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE job. Safelite is the authorized windshield repair company use by my insurance company, and whenever I call my insurance office to report a windshield issue my calls are automatically directed to Safelite Auto Glass.
I really don't see how they will ever get my FJ, which has only 6,000 miles on it, back to normal! Does anyone out there have any advice short of violence?

Just wait on the manager and see what happens. If you can't reach an agreement call your insurance and tell them that you are taking your truck to the dealer to fix all the damage caused by safe lite

I just took my FJ to my Toyota dealer to confirm my issues and they were appalled by the poor job done. We also found two other problems: The molding strip that goes along the top of the windshield that they painted to match my TT's red roof was poorly done. It appears that it wasn't properly cleaned before painting or painted in a dirty environment, because there are gritty bumps though out it. Also the wiper blades, when at rest, are about twice as high as the ones on the new FJs in my dealers lot. I can now clearly see the road under them and this wasn't the case previously.

Sry to hear that. I just had mine done a couple weeks ago by them and the guy did an amazing job. I did specify to bring extra clips for the cowls. I am sure they will do you right. Hold out till the mgr comes. If not then call the insurance and go elsewhere.
The cowl panel covers are held by one-time use plastics clips. They must use new clips.

For the the panel (antenna mount) on the passenger side and drive side, here are the clips P/N;

61992-35010 (Qty 1)
61991-35010 (Qty 1)
61118-35010 (Qty 2)

x2 on the Qty for both panels.

Well I would be all over safelites ass until you get your truck back the way its supposed to be. Mention a lawyer and see if it helps. JMO
The "service manager" from Safelite looked at my FJ and agreed with all of my issues and even found a couple that I had not noticed. He said they would make it good and they will pay to have my dealer do the paint work on the chips and scratches. Apparently most of the plastic clips were damaged and broken during installation. I still can't believe that their technician that installed the windshield let it go at that.
Glad to hear safelite copped up to their mistakes that's hard to find these days hope all works out well sucks that our windshields were designed so not standard, I'm sure safelite has had these problems over and over
Good to know they are fixing it. I wonder with all the broken wind shield Fjs get I wonder if theres a way we could take that plastic piece off ourselfes slowly and carefully to save the clips or are they going to break no matter what?
Anthro -

Glad to hear they're making it right. I have had great experience w Safelite but always ask for an FJ specialist. We all live & learn - my first experience involved the same clip issues. The guy (yep, I request the same guy now) who does mine says the FJ is in the top two most difficult to do right. He's typically here 2 hours (they use sand on the roads in CO instead of salt in winter - cars don't rust but you get a new windshield about once a year).
Also - when the dealer pulls your top strip, ask them or the service manager at Safelite to check the glue. I've also been told that the way the glue is applied is critical w an FJ - particularly along the top (2010 - on windshield #3).

I picked up my fj in colorado springs and safelight had replaced the windshield before i picked it up they apparently broke most of the clips on my metal trim on top and thought that a liberal amount of glue or whatever they use would hold it down. Well I guess with this heat here in socal the glue didnt hold and my trim piece nearly flew off on the freeway. I still have no trim piece because they are like 300 bucks to replace and they dont just sell the clips. Im glad safelite was able to take care of you completely after the bad service.

-Just re-read this and want to be clear. The glue on the upper part of the windshield is critical.

Smeshlie07 - no good. When I had my first replacement I learned it wasn't the FJ's first and I had broken clips as well.
One more thing to watch out for when your FJ windshield is replaced. The "technician" from Safelite put the windshied wipers back in the wrong locations. He placed the longer driver side blade on the passenger side.
A rock chipped my windshield today. SOB. After reading this, I should focus more on the plastic clips, and the glue on the top of the windshield during the repair. Does anyone else have anything to add? Does anyone have referrals for windshield replacement near Hermosa Beach, or LA? Also, are there any temporary fixes, DIY (crazy glue, epoxy) methods to prevent the crack from growing? If it stays as is (5-6" crack), I'll just leave it. I'll post a pick soon.
I have 4-5 chips in my windshield. Luckily none of them have grown at all
