FJ-Piper's Meet & Eat Aug. 16 2008

Report:
You can read the report and see the pics here: http://socalfjcruiserforums.com/forums/index.php?topic=970.msg15653#msg15653

Update:
I hope you're all ready for this, I know we are! :) I will be sitting in the bar shortly after 4:00 PM and we should all be there ready to be seated by 5:00 PM. For those of you that catch traffic, etc..., don't worry, just get there when you can. Better late than never! This restaurant is located on the North side of the 5 Freeway at the Valley View exit in La Mirada. It's kind of hard to miss this place as it is a very large log cabin with snow on the roof and is visible from the freeway. However, for those that need a bit further guidance, here is the address to punch into your Nav or to look up on the Internet:

14305 Firestone Blvd.
La Mirada, CA
(714) 739-0331

See you all there...

Original post:
OK Folks, here's what we got going on.

Restaurant choice #1 is: Shin-Sen-Gumi , located in Fountain Valley, this is traditional style Japanese Yakitori. what is Yakitori you ask? click here: What is Yakitori? The only problem with this is that there can be no more than 14 people sitting together at my reservation and it has to be either at 6:00 PM or 7:30 PM. I will be having another event here in the upcoming months so it may be best to wait on this one, we'll see what kind of responses are posted.
Restaurant choice #2 (The Winner!) is: Clearman's North Woods Inn , located in La Mirada, Take a trip back in time to a traditional north woods inn, where you'll be treated to the warmth and charm of a rustic log cabin like those that used to welcome travelers a century ago. Take time to savor our Lumberjack-sized portions under a snow-covered roof surrounded by the glow of Tiffany-style lamps; admire the fine, gilt-framed paintings; or simply relax as all of us at the North Woods Inn take care of your every dining desire.

I can make reservations if there is more than 25 people. Dinners range from $19.95 to $35.95 with the most common meal, Lumberjack Steak Medium Size, being $24.95. The portions are big and it is common to have a couple split a dinner for a fee of like $7.00 or less, i'll check on the exact pricing.
All dinners include Two Salads, Cheese Bread, Rice Pilaf, Baked Potato, with choice of Whipped Cheese Butter, Butter, Sour Cream & Chives, or Mushroom Gravy.

If you have never been here, it is definitely one of those places not to miss before you die! This is an extremely kid friendly establishment where throwing the peanut shells on the floor is encouraged and kids dinners can be split at no extra charge!

Dinner time would be 5:00 PM

Lets see what kind of responses we get and I'll make a choice by August 1st.

I've been in the noodle side of Shin Sen Gumi quite a few times & the yakitori side a couple times. That place is way cool!

However it is a bit on the small side for a group........so I will go with North Woods.

I dig Northwoods.....Last time I was there, we were eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor. That was years ago. I vote Northwoods

You got it! Funny, I ate there last night and ate yakitori and sashimi the night before at Kappo Honda, another very Japanese restaurant near me. Both are managed and waited by Japanese people and to me, it really adds to the experience.

I vote for Northwoods Inn! My work had our company Christmas Dinner there and it was pretty cool and has a decent size drink menu as well! Oh yeah, you can still eat peanuts and throw the shells on the ground. Please put me down +2, thanks.

We almost ended up at North Woods Inn for dinner lastnight following Obon Festival at OCBC Click to see BUT, it was late, North Woods was my sons suggestion and I thought it more appropriate to eat Japanese food instead so it was off to Funashin for take home Sashimi Edamame and Spicy Tuna Roll. Almost as goot as North Woods! :)
