I got an email back from Greg.

I've asked about more difficult trails and he said that there is a moderate/difficult trail (3N03A) on the east side of BB.

From Dirtopia
Horsethief Flat Trail in Big Bear, also known as 3N03A is a black diamond. It has lot's of off camber sections, steep slopes and great hairpins but in general nothing out of the ordinary or really that difficult.

I think we should go ahead and adopt 3N59A and check out this 3N03A.

Latest info:

Fromg Greg:
This is s black diamond trail that is located off of 3N03 at Cactus Flat. It gains/loses 1,000 feet of vertical in about one mile. The road leads to Arrastre Creek and a large cottonwood stand. Beautiful area very secluded. Issues are abandoned vehicles at Horse Thief Flat, wilderness trespass, off site impacts, illegal campfires and dumping. This is a good trail to practice 4x4 skills while enjoying the great outdoors...the views are spectacular of Johnson Valley and beyond!!

Tony, Can you check with the SBNF Trail Liason if things like live video streams of known problematic areas (illegal hill climbs, etc...) would be beneficial to combatting these types of problems? it is something I've always wanted to do and i am currently testing such stand alone streaming video stations that consist of a solar panel, battery, and web cam. I would think that existing trees would make the best mounting spots for these but if we had to, a tall steel pole could also do the trick.

Are you thinking of setting one up for monitoring? Who would monitor it? Sounds good, but also expensive.

A bit far is an understatement! It's way on the other side! It's however the side of BB that I rarely visit and am anxious to do so. I may forgoe the morning Cleghorn run and focus my energy on 3N59A and other parts of BB.

Doug, I'm going to try and find out when Greg can take us out there. Be good to have him along.

Just got off the phone with Greg. Hegowee club is almost nonexistant. They have 2 members and is not very active. Once we make the adoption official, Greg will notify them of the changes. Greg will be sending me the Volunteer Agreement and once that gets filled out, we can go together for a ride along and develope a trail maintenance plan. I'm so very excited!

I'll continue to keep everyone in the loop. I hope to have as many people as possible on the ride along. In order for this to work we need all the support we can get!

Re: Correspondences with Greg 6/5/08

I just got the following email from Greg.

Just got back in town, I'll mail the agreement out to you tomorrow. BTW, I finalized the cancellation of the previous volunteer agreement with the Hegowee's. The trail is all your's!

Anyway, I'll work on it as soon as I get it.
