So I installed my Cobra 19 Ultra III (Walmart) and the rest of the Big Bill setup. I get power to the unit but no sound at all. No feed back, distortion, engine noise...nada. What gives? The power is connected the ACC fuse and the ground it is grounded to the frame under the driver side kick panel. I have the 3ft Firestik, quick disconnect and spring on a Bandi Mount. You think the unit is bad?

I have adjusted the squelch. Clicked the mic on and off. Nada... Any ideas? Bad unit? Bad ground? Bad ground on the Bandi? I should get some static or some sort of sound right? The CB lights up and I can adjust the volume and emergency channel etc.

Update!! It's flippin' fixed!! ;D I decided to start at the coax from the Bandi mount. Removed the Bandi and then strated to put it all back together. Everything is tight and removed even more paint for a good ground. I found the issue when I got to the unit self. The stripped end of the coax which needs to be put together had come apart :-\ I put it back together, only this time even tighter. Finally static and some truckers!! Thanks all for the advice!

Congrats! I thought it was the unit, but I'm very glad to hear it wasn't.

I installed my Bandi Mount and didn't remove any paint. Now the nylock is on so tight I can't get it off to remove any paint. Sheesh....

Yes....spring, quick disconnect, antenna. And be SURE to scrape the paint off the hinge where the nylock nut goes BEFORE you install the nut. That is your ground, and without a good ground you get "blah" reception.

Thanks Dave. Yep, Dave remembered you mentioned that and he did a thorough job.

Nice! Congrats on the install. I know you will love it. Not to mention it just plain looks good.

Historical note - I got my Firestik and Bandi Mount after I said I would never get one. I got a magnetic antenna, and was semi-happy with it, even though it had a shorter range than the hard-mounted antennas. I used it on the Mojave Trail, and when I got home I took it off the roof and put it in the garage. I never found it again. That chalked up to a $30 waste of money. So I solved that issue and bought the Bandi Mount. I am VERY happy and haven't looked back since.
