Besides 2 heart attacks and giving away the database so it would go on, what is the reason the last one went away?

I'm sorry about your heart attacks and I hope you feel better Jim, But A4x4 was loosing lots of momentum and the changes were done to get thing moving again. And the fact that you were extremely rude to people on and off A4x4 wouldn't listen to others that were trying to help I know I stopped going over there because of the way you were treating people especially one in particular. You might have good intension's but it gets lost in your attitude towards others that don't think like you and agree with you. Good luck and I hope your health improves.
I always got the impression that anyone that participated in any way with some group that was vehicle specific was looked down on by certain people at ad4x4. So, it ended up a self-fulfilling policy to me, and I didn't want to belong to this exclusive group of non-vehicle specific exclusivist's.

In other words, it seemed hypocritical to me to be so vehemently against the vehicle specific groups, to the point of becoming, in a way, a "specific" group.
I prefer the Adventure4x4.net domain name ;D Good luck with the new site!

thanks for the good luck
but let me point out a few things
I have the facts and figures, at the time we dismantled AD4x4 we had more members than ever, our active membership was at an all time high and post counts in the last 2 weeks had 4 days of the most post ever. New membership was way up. Behind the scenes we were forming a board of directors, and reorganizing the sites management. I was also looking for someone new to take it over. If you had stopped going to the site as you claim you would have missed a lot of this. OAUSA took over the data base and membership with a promise to keep things as they were. What has happened since then? I took a few months off for my health, OAUSA has become what they have become retaining a portion of the membership of AD4x4, the rest have moved on. I recognize a fair share here.
JGT is in no way trying to rehash AD4x4. In fact I have only invited 2 people to the site, CruiserLarry and SinCityFJC, both good friends of mine. Larry just made it Yesterday and Brian has been there since we started. Everyone else either stumbled, followed a link at the old AD4x4 site or heard from word of mouth about JGT. Since starting up 2 weeks ago there are around 25 or so members. I believe close to 1/2 never belonged to AD4x4. Growth will continue and there will be some major differences from AD4x4. No Commercial support, No vendors, No commercial post. No hosted events like BorregoFest. I gave the fest events to OAUSA. I found out through AD4x4 that vendors create a situation you do not want, You become a slave to their whims. You must answer to them when a post they do not like is posted, they are always having issues with other vendors. It gets tiring and I do not want a repeat.
JGT is mainly the trail section of AD4x4, a place to post runs and find out who is running, If used like this many boards such as SoCal FJ Cruisers can use it as a way to coordinate runs between boards. Like a clearing house. The benefit to members of these other boards is a quick place to see what is going on. The benefit to me is a lot of runs to choose from.
The membership also, through the main page, have a place to post articles, political or not, including photo albums, about Land Issues, Adventure trip reports in long form, we have a links page that will grow quite large, etc. It will become a website interesting to browse along with a forum. It will slowly fill out with articles written and submitted by members. I admit till the submissions start coming in it may be heavily populated by myself.
Ah yes the infamous Toyota only event where I was rude to a Toyota Employee, Guess what, 2 weeks later I was asked to and did in fact introduce the Key Speaker at the Toyota 50th anniversary event where that person I had been rude to was heading up part of the greeting committee.
Let us drop this now, that is the past and future of AD4x4, I consider the AD4x4 a strong learning experience in both how to run a forum and how not to. Mistakes were made, mainly by me, but there were a lot more great things going on. The site I am building now I could never have steered AD4x4 into, and it was on my mind before we dismantled AD4x4. JGT will never have a adopt a trail, never host a 3 day event, never stand up and change the world. It will be a small group of friends camping and wheeling. A simple website with no aspirations. I leave these things to sites like SoCal FJ Cruisrs, OAUSA, MyJeepRocks, and others I love to visit and read. I just want to go out and wheel and have a place to post my opinionated articles I write.
Jeshua, you are welcome there anytime.

I still own it, thanks
Seems like your idea of a good forum is what we have here already. It's a casual and relaxed atmosphere with good times, good trails, and good people. With no "management" to boot!

What Tony said. The last thing I need is more internet-politics, and there are NONE on this site....nor will there be. I think I'll just stay here where the cool peeps are ;D

As it should be, but remember I no longer have a FJC
so JGT is home. others are bookmarked places we like to visit.

Hmmm. This still seems arrogant, non-apologetic, and hopeful that we'll just forget your past indiscretions and let you be. Between that and the poor grammar, I'll just let you be. You have your wish.
As you wish Dave
May you have good trails
