Next Saturday My son and I are going to Indian truck trail to break in his new jeep. I just want to take him on some fire roads until he gaines some experiance offroading. I would go in on sky line drive but I need a key now and i`m not paying $100.00 to go thru a gate. So i`m thinking we will go down to Indian truck trail if I can find the entrance the little google map looks kind of confusing looking at the map it looks like the dirt trail starts at the end of Santiago Rd. Anyone know? If I can`t find the entrance we will go down to Ortega Hwy and go in down there. the map looks alot clearer there. I also see a short trail called El Cariso trail anyone know anything about this trail. Like I said I only want to do easy easy trails my son has only been in the FJ before with me and never his own so don`t want to freak him out on his first trip. Any info would be great. Thanks Steve

Re: Indian Truck Trail

The map would be sweet. I was thinking of starting on ortega and heading north when we got done with the trail we could head for home without back tracking. thanks guys

Re: Indian Truck Trail

Just got back from Holy Jim and it was empty. Hardly anyone there. Did N. main divide saterday night and No one was there either. I'd be down for another HJ run next week

Re: Indian Truck Trail

Thanks Ace. Its a simple map I like it. I may run farther up main divide to Bedford rd if it is open. I know skyline is closed up there by beeks place because of the fire(STILL) but we will run as far as we can.

Re: Indian Truck Trail

As I understand it. Skyline is closed before beeks place. N. Main Divide goes to Indian truck trail and then ends at a housing development. Everything between Indian truck trail north to beeks place is still off limits. I think it might reopen in October. Once it opens the trail is like 30-35 miles long. Right now only about 11-12 miles is open. That is the last time I took account of my mileage when up there.

If you go that way, no map is needed. Finding that entrance is simple, and Ace's link will probably be enough. The Indian Truck entrance is tough, because it's hidden in some new housing area right now.

Re: Indian Truck Trail

Dave,

Hooking up would be cool. I wanted to get there fairly early to beat some of the heat. I was thinking around 7am but if you want to go we can meet down at main divide rd on the 74 at 8 am. Like I said this will be my sons first solo trip in his jeep so he will be getting the feel of it so he won`t be doing any crazy stuff. I haven`t been on the ortega end of main divide yet so I don`t know whats there. We always played at the skyline/ maple springs end.

Re: Indian Truck Trail

Just got back from Main Divide/ Indian truck trail. We went in off of ortega hwy. It was fun and my son and his jeep loved it. I have to say that is the dustiest trail I have ever been on, its like driving in cement dust. I led the way so I didn`t get buried near as bad as my son did. I made sure his black jeep wasn`t black when we got done. We could only go as far as ITT the gate was still locked to go any farther. Thats alright though cause it was getting hot and we had komakazi horse flys that were relentless if we stopped.
My son took some pretty cool pictures so I will post them up as soon as he puts them on my computer. Talk to you all later Steve.

Absolutely. Makes me want to design a water tank bumper with some sprinklers to try and keep the dust down. Horrible.

Glad you guys got up there to check it out. Hopefully the gates get opened in a couple months.
