Official Mojave Road “Toga” Run Thread

UPDATED 6/2/08

Based on the feeler thread it looks like we have some good interest in this run.

Thanks to FunJunkie for the theme. Togas are optional but encouraged. Just be sure to check your toga for snakes in the morning.

The dates are June 7 and 8

We will be running East to West starting off from the Avi Casino parking lot.

We should plan to be on the trail by 8:30 so allow time to gas up etc. so we can hit the road on time.

Obviously there is one night of camping involved so bring whatever you need to be comfortable for a night in the desert. Temps could be anywhere from freezing to broiling so be prepared.

Extra fuel and water is a necessity.

As for dinner Saturday night we can either go every man for themselves or go looks like we are going the potluck route. Chime in on your preference what you are bringing if you choose to participate.

Some wood from each rig for a community fire, or two, would be great.

Also, some input from those of you who have already made this run a time or two would be great.

I will contact the ranger station this week to get a permit for us.

Here is the interest list so far. Please PM me to solidify your spot or to drop if you need to. 15 rig max

This is a casual run so anything that anyone would like to add or suggest is welcome. I can’t wait to get out on the trail.

Current CONFIRMED List:

Ricoverde CONFIRMED
Funjunkie CONFIRMED
Kokopeli CONFIRMED
Mtnkraut CONFIRMED
FJ-Piper CONFIRMED
Eagle Scout CONFIRMED
spertierra CONFIRMED

FYI, the address for the AVI Casino, our jumping off point is:

10000 Aha Macav Pkwy
Laughlin, NV 89029

Whether you are coming from LA or OC, you basically want to get out to I-15 towards Barstow then grab I-40 east to Needles. Google the address to get the detailed map to the Casino itself.

The distance from central OC is 265 miles and should take just under 4 hours depending on traffic of course.

The return trip is around 175 miles, much shorter as Domininc pointed out.

Rooms at the casino for Friday night are currently available and running between 75 and 87 dollars including tax.

FYI, I just got off the phone with the ranger station. The permit process has begun and should be no problem at all, however, in order for us to not have to post a bond for insurance with the National Park Service, it is important that everyone have proof of insurance in thier vehicle while on the run to show if we are stopped by a ranger at any point.

Thanks

IMO.. I haven't seen it mentioned but i think we should run this from the Avi Casino side to Afton Canyon. It will make it the drive home much easier and less tiring.

Re: Official Mojave Road "Toga" run thread

I've got 7 FJ Cruiser Mojave Road Expedition 2008 stickers remaining. I'll donate them to the cause. So which ever of you reprobates wants to take custody of them, please advise an address by PM and I'll drop them into the mail -- on two conditions.

(1) You MUST have fun!

(2) I don't want to see a photo of FUNJUNKIE & RICOVERDE sitting around a bonfire in togas drinking cheap booze! I just don't!! It's one of those Brokeback Mountain images that I want to go through life without witnessing...
