Mornin' everyone..

On April 5 I'll be heading out to run the Main Divide (MD). This is a prerun for the Brews, grills, grindz, and BEACHES event scheduled for May 24th and I'll probably make another run a bit closer to the event. I'm thinking a late morning or early afternoon departure time would be good.

MD is an easy run and should be no problem for the 2wd FJs. It's my understanding that there are some turn-outs that can add some excitement, but it has been years since I was on this trail so I can neither confirm nor deny their existance. ;)

For more info on the Main Divide checj out the following Dirtopia entry:
http://www.dirtopia.com/wiki/Main_Divide_Road

Also, it is my understanding that at some point MD is locked down so we may be taking a detour onto the Indian Truck Trail (ITT). - Actually, I just called and confirmed that Main Divide is in fact locked at the ITT junction so we will indeed be making a detour.

ITT will put us out near Lake Elsinore and is an exit off the I15 so anyone from San Diego can head home from trail's end.

For anyone that remains after we reach the end of the run, I'll be heading back via Ortega Highway (or depending on the time and how long it took us to run the trail, we may go back the way we came) and stopping at Bad To The Bone in San Juan Capistrano for lunch (or dinner, depending on the time we leave).

I would like to keep this run low key so I will only be opening it up to folks on this forum. Please refrain from mentioning it over on Big Blue.

We'll see y'all on the 5th!

I'm down. I'll double check the schedule at home.

There are actually 2 trails that head down. The main and longest one is Indian Truck Trail. The other comes down in Lake Elsinore. I'll go back and check my maps/gps files, and see what I come up with.

No turn outs as I recall. I was just up there little over a month ago. Very 2wd friendly. If you do a late morning run or afternoon run, I would like to attend. Thanks.

Ha! The Wildomar OHV area was pretty hairy for me when I was there a month ago. It was dark and no one was around so I hit the SCREECH trails for a bit before coming home. You know, the trails for motorcycles and quads with all that brush that goes SCREECH on the paint!

I might be able to attend this run, i'll let you know closer to the actual date.

So Brian. What's the deal on this. I.e. Meeting place and time. I am setting some time aside to meet up with you and anybody else who is going. That run is like a hour and half long with some short stops along the way. Cheers! ;)

Yes, what time? As for a spot, we've had two meeting spots for the times I've gone up there. First one was at Bravo burgers...

Bravo Burgers
31722 Rancho Viejo Rd
San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
It's right off Ortega Highway and the 5.

N33' 30.1601 W117' 39.2288

Second meet was up on the trail at a parking lot. To get to it, you head up Ortega to Main Divide, turn left. Once you've made the left turn, there is a fork in the road. Main Divide goes off to the left, and is paved for a while. Near the end of the pavement is a parking area. (It's right next to the turn for the rest of the trail and a campground).

Either spot is fine by me, or whatever you choose too. There is some room for a small group to meet right there off Ortega at Main Divide.

Re: Main Divide / Indian Truck Trail - April 5, 2008

I wanted to get out of the house Sunday so I grabbed my kids and my gear and we preran the route for the prerun this coming weekend. I basically wanted to make sure there would be no surprises for our 4x2 compadres.

Barring some rocks on the road, all of which are passable, the trail is doable for ALL stock FJs, 4x4 and 4x2 alike. So if you haven't gotten your FJ dirty and you really want to, this will be a great run to de-virginize her.

I took Indian Truck Trail all the way to where she meets the pavement, then turned right around and ran her back the other way. Round trip took roughly 3 hours and the total distance was roughly 28 miles. Do y'all want to run it one way then hop on the 15 to the 74 and head back to SJC for lunch at Bad to the Bone, or do you want to do the trail there and back? I'm good either way so I'll let y'all decide.

Also, can I get a head count so I can have an idea of how many rigs we'll have AND so I can let the restaurant know we'll be stopping in for lunch.

To sum it up here's what I need to know..

  • Who will be joining in the fun?
  • How many passengers?
  • Joining us for lunch afterwards?
  • 4x4 or 4x2?
  • Do you want to take the trail one-way or take it round trip?

Thanks!

Question...

I have a co-worker with a 4 door Rubicon that I've talked to about our runs. Is it ok to see if she wants to go with us? I haven't asked, just wanted to get feedback before asking.
