Hey guys and gals of this fine forum. Sorry for the short notice but this upcoming Friday, Feb 29th, a few friends and I will be heading out to down to Glamis aka the Imperial Sand Dunes for the weekend with our rigs and quads and returning Sunday March 2nd. There will be camping, off-roading, riding, and of course drinking (not to be combined with off-roading or riding). Weather in Glamis should be 70s-80s during the day and upper 40s-50s at night with no predicted rain. We will be leaving Chino Hills around 5:30pm on Friday if anyone would like to roll out with us. Below are maps and links to weather reports and other information. I hope that a few of you can make it. Just e-mail me: [email protected] or call me (909)762-3730 for more info or to let me know that you are going. Tom

Precise directions to Glamis from the Los Angeles and Orange County Metropolitan Areas

-10 FWY PAST PALM SPRINGS AND PAST INDIO

-JUST PAST INDIO, THE OFF RAMPS ARE NAMED AFTER DECEASED PRESIDENTS. JUST PAST JACKSON THERE IS THE 86S EXPRESSWAY CUTOFF TO BRAWLEY/ EL CENTRO - LATER SIGNS SAY MECCA AND COACHELLA.

-EVENTUALLY IT BE COMES HWY. 86. FOLLOW THIS FOR THE NEXT 1.5 HOURS PAST SALTON SEA. YOU CAN SEE THE SALTON SEA ON YOUR LEFT AFTER A WHILE).

-HWY. 78 JOINS HWY. 86 JUST PAST SALTON CITY - DON’T BLINK OR YOU’LL MISS SALTON CITY - THE HWY. NUMBERS (78 & 86) RUN CONCURRENT FROM HERE TO BRAWLEY

-CONTINUE PAST WESTMORELAND (4-WAY STOP SIGN); PAST BRAWLEY (8 SIGNALS) - GET FUEL AND GROCERIES HERE - LAST CHANCE.

MAKE THE TURN TOWARD THE CATTLE YARD (LEFT) GOING OVER THE OLD RAILROAD THAT HAS HAD A SECTION REMOVED THAT CROSSES THE HIGHWAY. YOU’RE ON THE HOME STRETCH NOW. ABOUT 19 MILES TO GO.

-CONTINUE 78 TO THE DUNES, YOU’LL SEE THEM LONG BEFORE YOU GET THERE IF IT IS LIGHT.

-YOU NEED TO TURN RIGHT ON GECKO ROAD, IT IS WELL MARKED. IT IS JUST AS YOU START TO MAKE THE MAJOR CLIMB OVER THE DUNES.

-GO PAST THE RANGER STATION ON THE RIGHT. THERE IS A PHONE JUST PAST THE STATION ON THE RIGHT IF YOU NEED IT.

it was like 60 degrees up there, and the snow was all melting. had a good time nonetheless, didn't wheel though.

where are the Glamis PICS?!?!?!?
Re: Glamis Feb 29- March 2

Sadly I didn't get any pics in Glamis. My phone died on the first day and my friend who said he had batteries for my camera didn't bring them. That's what I get for trusting him, lol. Next time i'll just bring my own batteries. It was fun though, not a lot of people. Temperature was 80-85 during the day nice and sunny with occasion cool breezes and at night it dropped down to about 57-60 with not a lot of wind so that was cool. Only problem was we had a sand storm on Sunday morning with about 30-40 mph gusts of wind, sand, and little pebbles being thrown everywhere. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to clean most of the sand out of the FJ last night. Nonetheless, we mostly hung around Oldsmobile Hill and the Sand Drags, I got to pull out some pre runner 2wd Ranger and some 4wd Frontier in the kinder dunes right outside of camp, and we had an overall good time. Especially when my buddy showed up with my bottle of Jose Cuervo Especial Saturday afternoon! ;D
