Re: So Cal Trail Run - Anza Borrego - 2/17/2018

A couple guys on Blue asked for run time and distance, so I thought I'd post it here too.

    A quick run down:
Leave trailhead on S22 at 9:30,
    Grapevine Canyon - 13.6 miles, 1.5 hours,
    S3 - 14.2 miles, 20 minutes,
From Landfill to Ella wash/S22 intersection - all washes in trail run included. (total guess: 2 1/2 hours, this may be way off on long side)
S22 to Calcite Mine trailhead - about 5 miles, 10 minutes (again a guess)
Calcite Mine trail 3.8 miles, 2 hours - there and back.

We should be back on S22 near N33 16.868 W116 05.795 around 4PM. Options here to continue as suggested in trail run or head home if you're stretched for time.

Sure thing Jeremy. I'm glad I finally got to meet you. Yes, fun day in the desert with friends and FJ Cruisers. Good times! Will need to do it again, soon.

    Great day! Fun run!

Aaron, Jeremy, Thane and I met at the Park-and-Ride at 8AM. All of us were aired down at the Grapevine Canyon trail head and rolling on DIRT by 10AM. Ran through all the trails with a bit of "exploring" to get on, stay on Inspiration Wash. We stopped for lunch in a slot canyon off of Palm wash (entrance to Calcite Mine trail) and enjoyed the quiet solitude and spectacular cliffs surrounding us. I believe the Calcite Mine trail may have been the highlight of the trip. Rated difficult by the "CA Backroads and 4WD trail guide". It was challenging, just as an old steep and rutted mine road should be.

Once back to S22 (at about 4:30), we proceeded on Truckhaven trail (thinking it went to the 4x4 Playground, oops!!) until we reached Arroyo Salado, headed NW to S22, then back to the entrance to Fonts Point trail to air up, as sunlight was fading quickly. Some quick math put us around 50 miles of dirt today!

I took very few pics, but will load some up later. Maybe Aaron, Thane, and Jeremy have others that will help represent the run.

Thanks for posting the images guys. I don't have anything to add, just duplicates of what has been posted. Indeed a perfect day and great off-roading! Can't wait to do it again.
