New UCA... How hard to install...

So, I'm thinking I'm in need of new UCA's. The noises coming from the stock ones is getting my worry meter up.

I'm thinking Total Chaos or Camburg. How hard is it to install these? I realize I'll need an alignment after, but could I do this in my garage? Any 'Special' tools needed, or the basic wrench and hammer does the trick?

I just ordered camburg balljoint uca's I was told you need to press in new ball joints. You reuse the stock balljoints but requires a press to remove and install. I am sure a local shop will do it for a few bucks.

ojedaxx, see you later this evening for the sunshade. Is that just the Camburg, or is the Total Chaos the same? TC seems to indicate a 'bolt on' installation. If all I need is a press though, that should keep the cost low.

Thanks Dom. I'll serve veggie pizza and lite beer for you.

    Hey Dave,

I've never heard of needing to press in the ball joint but most after market kits shouldn't take too long. Make sure you rent the ball joint remover from autozone, so you don't mess up the stock boot in case you ever want to go back to factory.

You will need to loosen the battery to access the driver side but other then that it is straight forward and make sure to use red loctite.

Also make sure you get the alignment done soon as I drove around for about 3000k miles and the uca's threw my toe way out and my front tires are more worn along the insides now....

Also make sure to grease the poly bushings welll before installing,(green grease available at autozone is good stuff) and dupont teflon dry multi use lube is good for the ball joint.

The uniballs should come already pressed in You shouldn't have to do anything with these other then bolt them thru your stock spindle.

Re: New UCA... How hard to install...

I have never seen Camburg budget UCA that use the stock ball joint.
The only set of after market arms that I have seen use a ball joint is the Light Racing set and those come ready to install with new ball joints. All others, Total Chaos, Camburg, Icon and all pro, use a 1" uni-ball, Camburg also has a set that use a 1 1/4" uni-ball for more strength and travel.

Dave like they said install is pretty staight forward. If you want TCao has a how to thread on blue that would be worth checking out.
