    2014 FJ base vs 2014 4Runner trail.

    I traded in my 2014 4Runner trail kdss Nav premium on July the 29th 2014 for my FJ. My Fj is not the ultimate one. I got a 6speed full time 4wd FJ w/ off road & convenience package. I traded in my 4Runner w/ 5000 miles.
    -What do I miss about the 2014 4Runner trail edition? Fuel range, back seat and cargo space. Rear windows roll down, tail gate window rolls down just like the rest of the power windows. The 4Runner ride was smother than in the FJ due to the 4Runner longer wheel base.
    -What I don't miss about the 2014 4Runner trail edition? Part time 4wd, KDSS, not having the choice of lifting my truck over 3", the fact that the 4Runner doesn't have the aftermarket parts selection that the FJ has. I lifted my 4Runner and because I had KDSS my 4Runner had a huge suspension lean to the right. Nobody could fix it. It was a nightmare. Not all 4Runners have this issue but many do. Land cruiser Prado have the same issue.
    >My opinion between the two;
    If you are looking for something rugged like a Jeep Wrangler but reliable, go with the FJ. If you don't care about having dashboard features such as Miles to empty, average miles consumption, go with the FJ. If you want a manual transmission w/ full time 4wd, go with the FJ. Now, if you are looking for crawl control and want part time 4wd, go with the 4Runner. The only 4Runner in the line up that comes with full time 4wd is the 4Runner limited. I had the 4Runner trail therefore it had crawl control, part time 4wd. I screw up by getting the KDSS option. Yes, KDSS is an option. You don't have to get It. If you are going to lift your 4Runner do yourself a favor and skip KDSS. If you aren't going to lift your 4Runner get KDSS. KDSS does improve cornering stability to the point that it handles almost like a large sedan. You can't get crawl control or KDSS on the 4Runner SR5 or Limited, only in the trail one. The approach & departure on the FJ is better plus the FJ shorter wheel base makes the a FJ better off road warrior. I like my FJ more. I hope this helps.

    nice rant.... but yah, full time 4wd does not exist or you would break the axles.. its AWD with a transfer case lock button for 4wd.. at any time there is still only 2 wheels applying power to the ground just instead of just one wheel in the back its one front and one back.
    also if you want live mpg and many other gauges google "ultragauge"

    Hey, this is not me complaining about each model. I'm just exposing my personal experience for those wanting to decide between the two.

    For those wanting to go with a 4Runner trail edition, part time 4wd is the only option. That's it.

    2014 FJ base vs 2014 4Runner trail.

    part time 4x4 is more stable durable and better for heavy off road use, AWD with 4x4 lock is more of a daily driver that can go on slightly unstable dirt roads.

    On part time 4wd you shouldn't go over 50mph on 4H. That's according to the Toyota gods.
