Long story short I bought a 2007 FJ cruiser and it only came with one key. Does anyone know where I can buy a spare key? Toyota wanted about 80 just for the key... I'm sure there's a key that isn't that much. No luck on Amazon.

My 2007 doesn't have a chip key.. You can get copies made at ACE for a couple bucks if it isn't a chip key

Probably an idiot question but how do I check if it's chipped?

They can usually do it at the store, I got mine made at Home Depot and they had a thing to check if there was a chip in it.

If it doesnt have a chip might as well get a bunch made, they are a few bucks each. I have one for in my wetsuit while surfing, one hidden under the FJ somewhere, and one in my room as a spare.

That's a pretty good idea. I hope it doesn't have the chip. Would you know how to program the remote?

If it is chipped a good locksmith can program it. Much easier if you have two keys they can do it easily ( note to those with two keys on hand ) if not then they have to hook up the laptop up to the car and program the new key.

    Where are you located ?

I had the same problem when I bought my 07 a few years back. Key had no chip so duplicate was easy. I bought two remotes on eBay that came with programming instructions. It was a sequence where you put key in ignition, close door, turn key to right, etc. It took a couple of tries but it worked and saved me a few dollars compared to the dealer.
