Toyota of Escondido : the GREAT DISASTER

I took in my 2007 for the TSB on manual transmission throwout bearing to Toyota of Escondido (ToE).

Wednesday - took my car to the dealership. The service rep said that it was still under warranty and he would order the parts. He didn't even check the car but ordered it anyway. He said they would know by Thursday 7:00 AM. I was referred to another service rep because he would be on vacation the following day.

Thursday - I call that morning and they said the parts are there. I take my car in. I had asked them to update me ASAP to know if my car had to be there for more than a day. They check to see that the car does indeed have the TSB issue. It does. But, they NEVER CALLED ME BACK when they figured it out. I had to call. They said that there were parts missing on the order so I would have to wait until Tuesday for parts to arrive. When were they going to call me? Who knows?

Tuesday - the parts arrive. I asked for them to call. THEY NEVER CALLED. I called at 8:00 AM to make sure that the car would get done ASAP. At this point, they tell me that there is no time for an appointment so I will have to come in tomorrow.

Wednesday#2 - The person who was working w/ me wasn't even in. I'm on my THIRD service rep. My car finally makes it in. I asked them to call me in the afternoon to know if my car will be done the following day or not. They never called until much later than we had discussed. When they do call me they tell me that the BRAKE LINE IS NOW DAMAGED when doing the service work and that they need to order the part. WTF?!?!

Thursday - I came in extremely frustrated. I talk to the service manager and he offers me a rental. I voiced my concern about the lack of service and communication to the customer. The parts would hopefully come in Friday. He assured me that he would do everything in his power to retain my business.

Friday - The car is finally done. The service manager works w/ me himself. I received my car. When I pulled into my parking spot at home, it felt like the brakes were engaging. I freaked out and Toyota was closing and it was getting dark. I then realized that the service tech had left my car in HL (this locks the center differential). Who gives a customer their car back in HL?!?!?!?!?!?

There were many excuses about them repaving the service area. Who paves the service area during the one of the busiest times of the year? I was trying to make an appointment but it seemed like I was their last priority. Communication was all that I was asking for. The service manager said that for future work, he may be able to cut me a deal on labor. We'll see if this happens. I hope if you all have work done to any of your vehicles that you have a more pleasant experience.

It was under warranty so it was "free". All in all you live and learn. At least my truck is done and ready for what awaits for the new year.

I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. On the way home was mostly straight driving and wide turns except for pulling in to park. When it started binding I let off the gas. It was dark and I accidentally went for the transfer case and luckily noticed that it wasn't in a normal drive position. I had to reread the manual to understand that HL on the manual transfer case means that the diff is locked. When I called the service manager all he could say was that it shouldn't have been left like that. In my previous car (Civic) I had an aggressive limited slip differential that would cause the car to jolt violently and feel like it was falling apart on tight turns. I never let it get even close to that.

It's a good reason for me to do things on my own. Anyone want to help me w/ spark plugs, front diff, transfer case, in a few months? I just did engine oil and rear diff. Am I missing any oil changes?

Your front diff, TC and spark plugs are super simple
