Nope they tried charging us $70 to inspect it, then $300+ to remove a roof rack bolt.

Which me and my dad did in less that 30 minutes (for free).

Re: Elmore Toyota "The worst when it comes to business"

Your dealership expierience will always vary depending on your needs wants & demands. It will also vary greatly depending on the professionalism & expierience of the individual you end up dealing with. IMHO

Since I have worked in a "stealership" service department for many yrs I can tell you why there is ALWAYS an up front fee for anything. The reason we charge a inspection fee is almost purely and simply to make sure that you are a paying customer and do not want a free diagnosis. The indusrty calls this "weeding out the bottom feeders." Someone that cannot or will not commit to a 95 buck inspection/diaagnostic fee will not normally commit to a 200 dollar repair but it is used as a good indicator. A good writer will get your 95 first he will not let ya know how much its gonna cost even if he already knows. He will say "i'm not sure wee need to look first." There are is a horrible saying at alot of dealers. They like to say that you either a victom or a hostage. Don't be either always be on the aggressive side. Ask for a discount etc. When you come to the dealer you are almost imediately involved with a service writer to guide you thru the repair process ,a service porter to move your car, a dispatcher to route and track your work and technician to rack up your vehicle and take a look at it. It will also take the time of a parts person to help complete the est for the recommended repair & and detail person for a courtesy wash. All of these people must be paid one way or another. This is how all dealers operate. They know if you won't commit to diag fees that more than likely you will not let them repair the vehicle once they have told you what it needs. I am one of the few exceptions out there and enjoy suprising people by not charging for certain things at certain times. But in general the industry now wants hardcore robots in their depts. Sad but true.
Unfortunately Gm dealerships have much more flexibility in the goodwill area compared to Toyota. The bottom line as with any business is to make the bux at all costs.
In general the younger the person helping you, the worse off you will be. Expierience counts in the dealership service & parts dept.
Always climb the ladder/chain of command at a dealship never let the bottom guy piss you off then lv.

If anyone ever needs a hand hammering some dealership people...............believe me I am am very good at ruining their day. So feel free to hit me up anytime.

WOW! That is typical of a stealership. In my line o' business we charge to fix or undo the F up that home owners do when trying to install there own tv's and audio gear. Example. I am billed out at $100.00 per hour to install Home theater gear. My co-workers are billed at $85.00 per hour. So when 2 people are on a job at one time it gets quite expensive. Thats if they bought it from us. If they bought it at Best buy or circuit City or other retail chain store we are charging $150.00 per hour per person and will not quote a price. We bill time and materials. And we are always slammed with business. Thats why I work like 55+ hours a week. But I feel your pain. Glad to hear you were able to do it yourself. ;)

I bet our experience would have been a lot better with a different sales person. The guy we had was snotty little worm.

Re: Elmore Toyota "The worst when it comes to business"

I have to disagree with this negative write-up on Elmore Toyota. I bought my FJ there through the Internet Sales and due to some delays that were not their fault, they hooked me up with a few free oil changes and a second free tank of gas. I received my Trail Teams Edition on Feb 19th 2008 which made me the second one in at least the Blue Room if not everywhere to receive a TT. Not bad IMHO.

If you want to get your FJ serviced there, talk to David Fleischman. He is the Service Manager, will write you up and move your car in himself, he has an awesome 4WD 4-Runner himself and likes to wheel. He'll be joining us on some future runs so be nice.

In addition, I have never received a single phone call from anybody at Elmore other than my sales person Perry Vinyard after the sale. I do receive a monthly coupon in the mail re service specials. Uh, I'm a customer, what's wrong with that?

Re: Elmore Toyota "The worst when it comes to business"

First, I'm glad you had a good experience with them. Maybe they are turning around for the better. At least I really hope they are.

My father in law was an elderly man. He walked into their showroom and dealt with floor sales guys. They saw him coming, I'll tell you what. They sold him a Camry 4 door. Not top of the line, just a mid-level Camry. He leased the car, and had no trade in. They drew up the contract.....get this......he had a 6 year lease with monthly payments of over $600. That's $43,200 for a Camry that retails for $20,000. He didn't take me that time to help him buy it. It was a very high-pressure sales tactic they used on him. They should have been arrested for elder abuse and fraudulent business practices.

Yeah, he was an adult. Yeah, he could have walked any time before signing the contract. But he was old and very trusting....a very religious person that thought a stealership would never do anything like this to him. I won't go into the way they treated him (like poop) every time he walked in to get service or talk to someone about anything. It's like they ripped him off and they just wanted him gone.

Longer story short....he sued and won. He got back a LOT of money and gave them the car back. The stealership never appealed the ruling.

That's why I will NEVER go to Elmore Toyota, and why I will ALWAYS tell everyone I know to avoid it like the plague.

I have nothing more to say on this. Carry on with the Elmore bashing, I will continue to go there.

Like I said Piper, I am glad you can trust them, and I hope they are turning around for the better.
